what is it?
Food Support aims to assist those who access it to save some $ so that those dollars can be used on other expenses such as bills etc.
The Food Support program is made possible by donations from our local Aldi and IGA stores plus local farmers that are picked up by a team of volunteers. It is primarily fresh fruit and vegetables. Quantities vary based on donations received.
The food is packed into boxes for people who have received a referral from GBNC's Emergency Relief staff, on the appointed day and time people then only need to come and pick up the box of food. This does mean that there is no choice about what is in the box given to each person.
who?
Any person who is experiencing hardship, including backpackers.
GBNC can help through its additional support programs.
how does it work?
Staff at GBNC will give you a voucher to give to Food Support volunteers and book you into the next session where you can pick up your food box. There are limits on how many times a person/family can access Food Support boxes per financial year.
when?
The Food Support program is held on Thursday mornings from 10 to 11am (doors close at 11am) on a booked-in basis. Note: failure to pick-up food box may result in you no longer being able to access Food Support.
To access Food Support, you will need a referral from our Emergency Relief Program which only operates every Monday between 9am to 12 noon.
